Curious

By the time she leaves Prep School at 11:

She will be motivated and not afraid to ask questions, with an extensive range of question types and techniques at her disposal, which she will use with discernment and sensitivity to occasion. A critical thinker, she will be able to rationalise, analyse, evaluate and interpret information to make informed judgements. She will interpret information to make informed judgements, identifying that which is misleading, inaccurate or incomplete. She will be able to detail her sources and justify their trustworthiness. She will be an independent learner who confidently makes her own decisions regarding her work and her use of time. She will plan and organise her learning effectively, read critically and reflect on the knowledge gained. She will pursue her interests at a high level and have a genuine interest in local, national and global communities.

Some of the ways we do this:

  • Questioning is a module in our Building Learning Power programme and our mascot - Curious Chloe.
  • Involve pupils in the planning of projects so they can direct their own learning.
  • Curriculum eg STEM - through investigations and analysis, analysis of texts in English, Forest School and using evidence eg History
  • Charities programme.

By the time she leaves Senior School at 18:

She will be curious about the world around her and will have a natural passion to find out things for herself. She will seek out further information in areas which spark her interest and extend her learning beyond the classroom. A critical thinker, she will be able to rationalise, analyse, evaluate and interpret information to make informed judgements. She will not accept information at face value without considering its source, looking for corroboration in other reputable sources and identifying that which is misleading, inaccurate or incomplete. She will be able to detail her sources and justify their trustworthiness.

Some of the ways we do this:

  • Offer opportunities, right through the school, for girls to make their own choices about the activities in which they engage.
  • Offering opportunities to take an EPQ or HPQ and the sixth form creative and critical thinking course.
  • Investigating individual areas of scientific inquiry.
  • A broad and diverse programme of trips and activities that encourage girls to engage in the world around them.
  • To be alive to the plethora of different career paths and life choices.
