Careers education and guidance
With the future at their fingertips, our Careers Programme is designed to equip students with the knowledge to make informed decisions about their next steps. We are excited to support pupils in identifying their strengths, skills and interests so that they can tailor their GCSE curriculum to support their future aspirations.
Curriculum and guidance
Throughout their time at Headington Rye Oxford, pupils study a careers curriculum as part of the PSHE and Tutor time programme. In their GCSE years, topics include:
- the importance of the labour market
- wellbeing in the workplace
- evaluating in-person, hybrid and remote working models
- post-16 options
External engagement and opportunities
We believe in connecting pupils with the working world. Our opportunities include:
- Fortnightly Careers Café: pupils hear from professionals about their career paths, subject choices and lessons learned along the way
- Biennial Careers Fair: held every other year in November to showcase a wide range of industries
- Construct our Futures Programme: a partnership with a local construction firm that helps pupils explore what a big company does in the city of Oxford
- Year 11 Work Experience day: taking place in the Autumn Term, this provides pupils with hands-on insight into the professional world
Planning for the future
All pupils have access to Unifrog, an online platform where they can match their personality and skills to potential careers. It also allows pupils to log activities to build a portfolio for future applications and CVs.
When it comes to making those all-important decisions, each pupil has a 1-1 session with their tutor or a member of the Senior Management Group. Additionally, our extensive alumni network, Headington Connect, provides a fantastic source of work experience and advice from former pupils.
Ultimately, we are here to support them from those first GCSE choices right through to their final steps, ensuring that when they leave us, they have the confidence to go out and make their future happen.
