Confident next steps
It might seem a long way in the future, but when it’s time for your child to move on, it will be a key moment in their educational journey. Their time at the Prep School will prepare them for a smooth transition for what comes next.
Transition to Senior School
From Nursery onwards, your son or daughter becomes part of the whole Headington Rye Oxford family. They will visit the Senior School site regularly for activities including Forest School and Swimming and work with some of our specialist senior teachers, for example in Art and Dance. For girls, that means that when the time comes to move on, they are very familiar with both the site and some of the key staff and moving to the Senior School will be a natural and seamless progression. Girls don’t need to sit an entrance exam and the vast majority choose to stay.
Future schools for boys
We also prepare boys for entry to senior school. We hold a series of future schools events and support boys to find the right destination for them, whether that be preparation for scholarship entry to selective school, entry to those with more of a focus on sport or the arts or exploring co-educational options where appropriate. We work closely with a range of senior schools and have developed close relationships with staff there to ensure that, working in tandem with parents, pupils and future schools, they can find the right fit.
