TRANSITION TO SENIOR SCHOOL
Next Steps
Events relating to the transition of our Prep girls to our Senior School begin in the Summer Term of Year 5, for those interested in our Senior School Scholarships programmes. A Meet the Head event is then held in the following Autumn Term for parents of girls in Year 6 at which parents meet Caroline Jordan and other key senior school staff. The girls themselves have a taster morning too during the Spring Term which is always hugely popular. We also encourage parents to attend one of our Open Morning events in the Summer or Autumn Terms of Year 5/6 to experience the senior school atmosphere.
A gradual change of pace throughout Key Stage 2 prepares girls for a smooth transition and we provide a full programme of advice and support to girls at this crucial time in their education. There is no examination requirement for entry to the Senior School and the majority of our Year 6 move up automatically. Each year around 10 percent of our Prep girls are offered Academic, Art, Dance, Drama, Music or Sport scholarships to Headington Senior School.
Parents are sent offer letters for their daughters in the Autumn Term of Year 6 for formal acceptance of their daughter’s places at the senior school. Educational tracking systems within the Prep School enable staff to identify early on those girls who may be better suited to an alternative senior school environment and Mrs Crouch meets with those families to discuss possible options from Year 5 onwards.
