Welcome from the Head of Prep

It is a real pleasure to introduce myself as the new Head of Prep at Headington Rye Oxford. I am very much looking forward to the start of the new school year in September. This is always a time of excitement, anticipation and perhaps a few nerves – these feelings will no doubt be felt by children joining the School, those moving up to new year groups and, I suspect, by the new Head!

Since being appointed, I have begun to get to know the School and have been warmly welcomed by the staff, parents and children I have met. I already feel part of what I sense is a very special community. From the strong sense of connection to the purposeful and engaging learning that takes place each day, it is clear that there is a genuine commitment to supporting children as individuals and encouraging them to grow in curiosity, confidence and kindness. It is a privilege to be joining a school that places these values at its heart.

The site offers a wonderful environment for learning, both in and beyond the classroom. As we continue to develop our outdoor learning programme, I am particularly keen that we make the most of the School’s extensive grounds, instilling independence and resilience by encouraging the children’s natural sense of adventure.

Headington Rye Oxford Prep is proudly coeducational – a place where boys and girls learn side-by-side in an environment shaped by respect and genuine care for one another. From my early conversations with staff and families, it is clear that this is a place where every child is known well by their teachers, where unique strengths, interests and potential are nurtured, and where all are recognised as valued members of the community.

This handbook is here to help with the practical side of school life, but I hope it also gives you a sense of what lies ahead: the opportunities, friendships and care that will shape your child’s time here.

I am very much looking forward to getting to know you and your family, and to becoming part of this vibrant school in the months ahead. Bertrand Leullier
