Welcome from the Head of Prep

It is a real pleasure to welcome you to Headington Rye Oxford Prep. Whether you are joining us for the first time or returning for another year, the start of a new school year brings with it a familiar mix of excitement, anticipation and perhaps a few nerves; children and parents alike will know the feeling.

Having spent time getting to know this community, I am continually struck by what makes it special. There is a genuine warmth here, alongside a purposeful approach to learning that takes children seriously as individuals. Curiosity, confidence and kindness are not just words on a wall; they are qualities I see lived out in classrooms, on the playground and in the way staff and families relate to one another every day.

The site offers a wonderful environment for learning, both in and beyond the classroom. Our outdoor learning programme continues to grow and I remain particularly keen that we make the most of the School’s extensive grounds, instilling independence and resilience by encouraging the children’s natural sense of adventure.

Headington Rye Oxford Prep is proudly coeducational, a place where boys and girls learn side-by-side in an environment shaped by respect and genuine care for one another. Every child here is known well by their teachers. Unique strengths, interests and potential are nurtured, and all are recognised as valued members of the community.

This handbook is here to help with the practical side of school life, but I hope it also gives you a sense of what lies ahead: the opportunities, friendships and care that will shape your child’s time here.

I look forward to another year alongside you and your family. Mr Bertrand Leullier
