The process of deciding what you want to do after you leave school starts early in your Sixth Form journey. The majority of students go on from Headington Rye Oxford’s Sixth Form to university either in the UK or overseas. Increasingly, girls are considering other options, such as workplace-based degrees, apprenticeships and other training schemes offered by employers.
The Sixth Form provides support for girls in the decision-making process and in applying for their chosen destination. Many professionals and academics, especially alumnae, visit the Sixth Form, providing valuable advice, encouragement and inspiration as well as a fascinating window on the world of work.
During your time in the Sixth Form you will have the opportunity to learn about a wide variety of careers and work experience opportunities. Highlights include:
- networking events where you have the opportunity to meet key people in a specific field
- careers fairs
- Higher Education Evening, including information on overseas universities
- work experience and advice on internships
- Headington Connect, where you are able to get help from former students and parents with a wide range of careers

Your progress through the Sixth Form, the UCAS process and on to university will be carefully supported by our dedicated Sixth Form team.
There will be:
- talks by outside speakers from leading UK and overseas universities
- talks from leading professionals for those girls considering going straight into the world of work on higher level apprenticeships, sponsored degrees and graduate employment schemes
- guidance on applying to UCAS and to overseas universities
- support in preparing for university interviews and admissions tests
- subject specific university classes run by academic departments
- specific programmes for applying to Oxbridge, Medicine, Veterinary Science, Dentistry, Law and Architecture
- preparation for taking SATs tests for entry to US universities
