Executive Summary
Invigilators are key to the smooth running of the examinations at Headington Rye Oxford. Invigilators are required to be vigilant at all times, providing necessary materials at appropriate times and patrolling examination rooms, ensuring that the candidates are not disrupted.
You will have a high standard of spoken English, be numerate, reliable and punctual. It would be helpful to have an understanding of the examination process.
Role Description
This is a casual role based at the Senior School, reporting to the exams officer and working as part of a team of casual workers starting in May 2026.
Key responsibilities
- setting out examination papers and stationery prior to the examination
- ensure a calm environment and help to organise pupils at the start and end of each exam
- display starting and finishing times for the exams on the boards
- ensure that the conduct of the exam takes place within the guidelines set down by JCQ
- be vigilant at all times, providing necessary materials at appropriate times and patrolling examination rooms, ensuring that the candidates are not disrupted
- ensure correct exam procedure is being followed and refer suspected malpractice or any irregularity in the examination process to the Exams Officer
- mark the attendance registers
- deal with any disturbances to the exam
- at the end of an exam, ensure that answer booklets have been completed correctly and collect exam scripts in candidate number order
- be familiar with the document ‘Guidelines to Students sitting Public Examinations’
- ensure compliance with the regulations on the conduct of examinations
- collect and count scripts at the end of the examination
- preparation of the examination room for the next examination session

Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- must have a high standard of spoken English; all communication with candidates in the examination hall is verbal
- must be punctual and reliable and able to commit to the examination period

- must be competent in IT and have good level of computer skills
