Creativity & Innovation Centre: The Hive
We are really excited to be leading the way as a school by putting creative thinking at the heart of a Headington education. We want to ensure that every pupil thinks creatively in everything she does and are delighted to have built our Creativity & Innovation Centre: The Hive, benefiting not only our current pupils, but generations of future Headingtonians.
The Hive is a hub for cross-curricular learning with an emphasis on sustainability, technology and enterprise. These facilities will help create the conditions to foster creativity and ensure that each of our pupils lives up to their creative potential. It is thanks to the generous support of parents, alumnae and the wider community that we are able to deliver this transformative project for our Headington pupils.
When people are inspired by their working environment they are more likely to be imaginative and creative. The Hive provides facilities to do just that including specialist Art and Textiles teaching spaces, a Sixth Form Studio, Lens Media Studios, Digital Manufacturing Suite, 3D Workshop and an incredible Exhibition Gallery and Lecture Theatre.
The Boathouse
Since Rowing was first introduced at Headington in 1991, HSOBC has become one of the largest, most admired and successful school boat clubs in the UK. After years of renting facilities at Godstow, Headington is excited to be building its first ever Boathouse, wet dock and boating pontoons on a site at Maddy Moorings, Long Wittenham in Oxfordshire. Our aspiration is to build an environmentally sustainable Boathouse which is fit for the 21st Century in order to support our talented athletes and reflect the huge success of the Club over the last 30 years.
HSOBC have rowed at Henley Royal Regatta since the inception of girls’ events in 2012 and our JW8+ made history as winners of the inaugural Prince Philip Challenge Trophy at the prestigious Henley Royal Regatta in 2021.
Builders are now on the new Boathouse site and have ‘broken ground’. Our plan is to get on with the work as fast as we can and we hope to have the girls rowing at Long Wittenham from September 2023, weather permitting. It is only with the generous support of the whole Headington School Boat Club community that we will be able to complete the Boathouse on our current ambitious timeline.
The Boathouse will cost approximately £4.5million to build and we aim to raise £2million through donations. Whilst this is an ambitious target, we are delighted to report that the campaign has got off to a flying start and we have already received donations and pledges of almost £600,000 towards the Boathouse.
