LEADERSHIP AND ADVENTURE
In the New Forest
Report by Zara on the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze and Silver Awards
Bronze Award
After two years away from school, being able to be back outside for D of E with friends was memorable for year 9.
Bronze D of E was full of complaints, arguments and even a small fire. Yet, I think we all agree that we have made memories and friendships that will last us a lifetime. Not only were we lucky to walk through some beautiful places, but we also experienced lovely weather, and on our second day we walked through Oxford - with lots of us getting lost along the way!
Even though our backs were sore and our feet ached for a few days, it was worth it. We were so lucky to have guidance along the way. We learnt map skills, orienteering, cooking with a Trangia, and setting up tents. I think we all laughed through the pain as some of us got lost in fields, small villages, and forests. I thoroughly enjoyed D of E, and I’m proud that we managed to make it back alive at the end.
