Drama Scholarships
What are we looking for in a Drama Scholar?
Our Sixth Form Drama Scholars are young actors, directors or technical theatre enthusiasts with impressive ability and potential to develop their acting skills in leading roles, to develop their experience as a director or their specialist technical theatre skills in scenery, lighting, costuming and sound.
We would expect potential scholars to demonstrate:
- strong performance or technical theatre skills
- creativity
- the ability to be a highly-effective member of a theatre company
They must also have:
- an impressive performance record (this can be within school productions)
- wide experience of live theatre
- excellent analytical skills in terms of theatre
What do we offer?

- A place on the scholars’ board displayed in the Theatre showcasing their achievements
What do we expect from our Drama Scholars?
For them to:
- feature in major school productions
- take on a range of challenging roles
- demonstrate a passion for theatre by attending live performances, reading plays and reviews
- support the work of the Drama Department
- work as part of a team
- assist the Drama Department on Open Mornings and at community events
Selection and assessment procedure
How do I apply?
External students must register their interest in a Drama Scholarship by noon on Wednesday 11th October 2023, using the appropriate form sent by the Admissions team in the Autumn Term. Existing students must complete the appropriate form sent to them by the Headmistress in the Autumn Term.
Assessment
Potential Drama Scholars (Acting) will be invited to audition. The process for each audition will include:
- Performances of two prepared contrasting monologues, both from full-length published plays, selected by the candidate. Candidates are advised to read the entire plays.
- An interview
- An unseen task
Potential Drama Scholars (Technical Theatre) will be invited to interview, with the assessment based on the skill set of the candidate.
Overseas candidates will be interviewed by Zoom/ Google Meet and must submit video evidence of practical assessments to scholarships@headingtonschool.com by Saturday 9th November 2024.
