Special Awards at 16+
Our Special Scholarship Awards are offered to the most exceptional internal or external scholarship candidates. In addition to a place on the relevant scholarship programme, offering mentoring, master classes and workshops, our special awards are worth 10 per cent of tuition fees and can be means-tested up to 100 per cent of tuition fees* as required. The Sonia Vichniakov Music Scholarship does not offer a contribution towards tuition fees, the details of the award can be seen below.
One Special Award will be presented at 16+ in each of the following categories:

The Porcher Academic Special Award
At 16+, the Porcher Academic Special Award (10 per cent of tuition fees, means tested up to 100 per cent for UK candidates) is awarded to an internal or external candidate.
All Academic scholarship candidates will automatically be considered for this award. The recipient will be selected from among the most outstanding candidates, following the academic scholarship process outlined here.
Special Awards for Sport and Rowing
One Shipperley Sports Award and one Broadhurst Collins Rowing Award are awarded at 16+. These special awards are available to internal and external applicants and will be awarded to the most exceptional candidate in Sport and in Rowing respectively. The award is worth 10 per cent of tuition fees and can also be means-tested up to 100 per cent of tuition fees for UK candidates.
Exceptional applicants for Sport Scholarships at 16+ will automatically be considered for The Shipperley Sport Award and should indicate if they would like to be considered for The Broadhurst Collins Rowing Award.
Overseas applicants will need to attend the assessment day at Headington.
The Oster Warriner Special Award
Each year, Headmistress Caroline Jordan will present one Oster Warriner Special Award to an exceptional internal or external candidate at 16+. The Oster Warriner Special Award is made to recognise an individual who through their personal leadership or actions is able to demonstrate a commitment to a subject, passion or interest that is not covered by any other award. (Examples might include a commitment to the environment, women’s rights, diversity, engineering or entrepreneurial endeavour). The successful candidate will have the potential to play a significant leadership role in their area of interest in the Sixth Form.
This award is available to internal and external applicants at 16+ and is worth 10 per cent of tuition fees. It can also be means-tested up to 100 per cent of tuition fees for UK candidates.
Who should apply for this award?
We are looking for an inspirational individual who best represents the core Headington Rye Oxford qualities which embody the very best of what we value in Headington Rye Oxford girls.
Applicants should already demonstrate many personal qualities and have a clear idea of how they would further develop in this area. The successful applicant will be eager to be a role model at Headington Rye Oxford and to share their particular skills and strengths with our community.
Selection and assessment procedure
Potential recipients of the Oster Warriner Award should submit either a 500 word essay or a five-minute video articulating how their passion or interest has helped them develop their strengths in their personal qualities and how they would further develop them as the recipient of the Oster Warriner Award.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview with Mrs Jordan and other relevant members of staff.
All candidates must submit their application electronically to scholarships@headingtonschool.com by Saturday 9th November 2024 and overseas candidates will be interviewed by Skype/ Zoom/ Google Meet.
Sonia Vichniakov Music Scholarship
The Sonia Vichniakov Music Scholarship is available to internal and external applicants at 16+ and is awarded to an exceptional musician who demonstrates longstanding commitment to both practical and academic music. Applicants are expected to study A Level Music or Music Technology in the Sixth Form and to be a role model for others, as well as supporting the department in a wide variety of performances. This award includes a £500 Music department grant (to be spent on a suitable music course, instrument or equipment in consultation with the Director of Music), as well as access to the full music scholarship programme. Exceptional applicants for Music scholarships at 16+ will automatically be considered for this award.
Overseas candidates must submit video evidence of practical assessments to scholarships@headingtonschool.com by Saturday 9th November 2024 and will be interviewed by Skype/ Zoom/ Google Meet.
