We have a plethora of co-curricular activities on offer and we hope that your daughter will take full advantage of the opportunities they provide. In particular, we hope our pupils can realise their potential outside of the classroom and see a pathway to success through our offering. Our full range of academic, leadership and adventure, creative arts, performing arts and sports activities are listed on the Almanac, links to which can be found on the Parent Hub of the school website and the Parent Portal. Through the Almanac you can find full details of each club, location, teacher and fee (if applicable).
Expectations for Music students
There is an expectation that all girls learning an orchestral instrument will take part in U3/L4 (Year 7/ 8) Sinfonietta (the junior orchestra). We also expect that all those who have singing lessons will take part in Headingtones (the U3-U4 [Year 7-9] choir).
Sign up for clubs
In most cases, sign-up is carried out by girls using SOCS and parents will then be informed of the choices their daughters have made. Where an activity carries an additional charge, parents will need to sign their daughters up using SOCS.
Clubs will take place during lunchtime and after school. There is a mandatory lunchtime carousel of activities for U3 (Year 7) and L4 (Year 8) pupils. Older pupils are encouraged to engage with activities as much as possible.
The vast majority of clubs in the Senior School are free of charge and we encourage all girls to try as many activities as they can, especially in the younger years. It is fine for girls to try an activity for a few weeks and decide it is not for her – we know they have limited time and want them to have the chance to find activities they love. For most clubs, a record of attendance will be kept in order to track your daughter’s involvement, however, a small number of activities are ‘drop-in’ to encourage girls to try new things.
Chargeable activities
Some chargeable clubs roll on from term to term but others require termly sign up. In all cases, the charge is added to the school bill. Should your daughter wish to join a chargeable activity during the year she may do so at the start of each term, provided there is space.
Giving notice on chargeable clubs
If your daughter no longer wishes to continue with a chargeable activity, notice must be given by the half term of the preceding term. To give notice please email activities@headingtonschool.com.
