Our co-curricular programme offers something for every pupil. There are over 100 clubs across sport, creative arts, performing arts, and leadership and adventure. There are also opportunities for pupils to extend their academic interests through a variety of enrichment clubs, whether they want to design their own experiment, write for a magazine, or learn about the history of Egyptian hieroglyphs. In September, an activities fair for new pupils and parents provides a valuable opportunity to explore the full range of options, with key staff on hand to guide pupils in selecting activities that complement and enhance their academic curriculum, ensuring a well-rounded and enriching school experience.
Expectations for Music students
There is an expectation that all girls learning an orchestral instrument will take part in Year 7/ 8 Sinfonietta (the junior orchestra). We also expect that all those who have singing lessons will take part in Headingtones (Year 7-9 choir).
Sign up for clubs
Pupils select their co-curricular activities using SOCS. If your daughter has selected to attend a chargeable activity, we will be in touch to ask you to approve this.
The majority of clubs take place during lunchtime and after school. There are breakfast clubs for Hockey and Netball and optional Saturday academies across the arts.
There is a mandatory lunchtime carousel of activities for Year 7-9 pupils. Older pupils are encouraged to engage with the co-curricular programme alongside their studies and should also consider which supracurricular options would complement their academic programme as they look towards their future career/study options.
The vast majority of clubs in the Senior School are free of charge and we encourage all girls to try as many activities as they can, especially in the younger years. It is fine for girls to try an activity for a few weeks and decide it is not for her – we know they have limited time and want them to have the chance to find activities they love. A record of attendance will be kept in order to track your daughter’s involvement.
Chargeable activities
Some chargeable clubs roll on from term to term but others require termly sign up. In all cases, the charge is added to the school bill. Should your daughter wish to join a chargeable activity during the year she may do so at the start of each term, provided there is space.
Giving notice on chargeable clubs
If your daughter no longer wishes to continue with a chargeable activity, notice must be given by the half term of the preceding term. To give notice please email activities@headingtonschool.com.
