Executive Summary
We are seeking an Assistant Tennis Coach to support the delivery of our Tennis programme. The purpose of the role is to primarily deliver individual and pairs Tennis coaching during Games afternoons to pupils of all ages at the Senior School and to run Saturday morning Tennis for the Prep School.
The successful candidate will be confident in their knowledge of Tennis, appropriately qualified and capable of delivering high quality professional Tennis lessons to pupils of all ages and standards.
Tennis at Headington Rye Oxford
At Headington we believe Tennis is a sport for life. Our weekly coaching programme has over 100 girls with a large majority having individual and pairs coaching. We offer year round Development and Performance squads and during the Summer Term our teams train on a weekly basis. As well as competing in local fixtures, our teams regularly compete in the LTA National Schools competitions. Tennis works alongside and with the PE Department.
Role Description
This is a term-time only role starting in September 2024.
The successful candidate will work independently and alongside the Head Coach.
Key Responsibilities
- deliver high quality Tennis lessons that ensure thorough teaching of recognised techniques overseen by the Head Coach
- be competent and able to recognise and adapt lessons to accommodate varying levels of players
- provide creative lessons that motivate pupils whilst sustaining a disciplined approach to teaching and learning
- ensure a safe and secure learning environment where pupils are challenged and encouraged to develop their technique, confidence and enjoyment of Tennis
- be responsible for ensuring equipment and facilities are left tidy at the end of every class
- maintain and keep up to date with LTA Accreditation
Person Specification
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- LTA Level 3 tennis coach
- LTA Accredited
- experience of delivering individual and group lessons in schools or clubs to a range of age groups and abilities
- good level of technical and tactical knowledge through playing experience
- experience with players in a competitive environment
Personal Attributes and Skills
- a conscientious and highly motivated individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- able to develop and improve players whilst making lessons fun
- able to assist with the promotion and development of Tennis at Headington
- able to demonstrate initiative by encouraging pupils into the Tennis coaching programme
- have a playing standard suited to all levels of pupils and techniques which are suitable for demonstrating

Contributory membership of the School’s Support Staff Pension Scheme with a School contribution of up to 9.95 per cent upon successful completion of six months’ service.
Fee remission
In accordance with the School’s policy, which may be subject to change from time to time, up to 50% fee remission for girls attending Headington Rye Oxford and up to 20% fees remission for students attending Magdalen College School (under a reciprocal agreement) and subject to the terms of their policy. Fee remission is calculated on the number of weeks and hours worked and is pro rata for part time staff who work at least 50% of a normal working week.
Salary
£30.36 per hour (plus holiday pay)
