Executive Summary
The School wishes to appoint a Management Accountant to assist the Director of Finance with all aspects of management accounts including a merger with a neighbouring school and the introduction of VAT on school fees.
The Management Accountant will join our Finance team of six which includes the following roles: Payroll Officer, Fees Officer, Purchase Ledger Clerk, Fees Administrator (PT), Finance Officer, Office Administrator (PT).
Role Description
This is a full time, year-round position starting as soon as possible.
Key responsibilities
Key responsibilities
- preparation of the monthly management accounts for the School and its trading subsidiary
- balance sheet reconciliations
- accruals and prepayments
- fixed assets and depreciation
- preparation of schedules for year end audit
- liaison with external auditors to provide explanations for audit queries
- assistance with production of statutory accounts and returns
- supporting the Director of Finance with preparation of quarterly VAT return
- ad hoc projects as required by Senior Management
- supporting the Director of Finance in the management of the annual budget cycle and the preparation of the annual forecast and budget for each academic year
- liaison with budget holders to obtain explanations for variances from budget
- ad hoc sales ledger invoicing (excluding fees) and cash book posting
- supporting the Fees Officer with Fees in Advance Scheme
- annual Gift Aid claim
- completion and submission of National Statistics Surveys
- supporting the Director of Finance in developing the School’s accounting and finance systems (WCBS Pass, Equals, etc)

Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- fully or part qualified accountant with significant management accounts experience
Desirable
- experience working in the charity sector or a school/college

Benefits
Pension
Contributory membership of the School’s Support Staff Pension Scheme with a School contribution of up to 9.95 per cent upon successful completion of six months’ service.
Fee remission
In accordance with the School’s policy, which may be subject to change, up to 50 per cent fee remission for pupils attending Headington Rye Oxford and up to 20 per cent fee remission for boys attending Magdalen College School (under a reciprocal agreement) and subject to the terms of their policy. Fee remission is calculated on the number of weeks and hours worked and is pro rata for part-time staff who work at least 50 per cent of a normal working week.
Salary
£45k - £50k per annum depending on qualifications and experience.
