Executive Summary
We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic technician to provide technical support to the Music Department and to assist with wider school events as needed. The successful candidate will be a team player who enjoys working with students and staff alike, with excellent knowledge of music software, recording and IT.
Music at Headington Rye Oxford
Headington Rye Oxford has an exciting and happy Music Department with a large dedicated team of academic and specialist instrumental tutors. The department is housed in a purpose-built Music School, with excellent practice and teaching facilities, performance and rehearsal spaces, and a recording studio.
We offer a full academic programme (including GCSE and A Level Music) and teach over 400 instrumental lessons a week, supported by a full-time Administrator.
We facilitate a busy concert programme throughout the year and aim to provide performance opportunities for all musicians, regardless of their experience. Pupils are committed, high-achieving and polite.
Role Description
This is a full time, permanent, year-round position.
Key Responsibilities
- provide technical and IT support to the Music Department and AV support for wider school events
- provide IT support to the Music Department, including maintaining software and upgrades, including macOS systems
- manage the Recording Studio and Electronic Music Studio
- be responsible for all electronic equipment within the department
- provide technical support as needed with classroom lessons, recorded Music exams and with Music Technology courses
- provide technical support for Music Department concerts, both in and out of school, and to assist with sound design for school productions
- oversee the live-streaming of concerts
- oversee the management of the music building
- be responsible for infrastructure improvements, such as the spec, upgrading and installation of equipment
- be able to provide additional technical support for other school events as required
Person Specification
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- degree/high level qualifications in Sound Engineering or Music Production
- knowledge of macOS systems
- working knowledge of a studio environment and software such as Pro Tools and Logic
- experience of ‘live’ sound and configuring PA systems
Desirable
- experience of school environments/working with young people

Pension
Contributory membership of the School’s Support Staff Pension Scheme with a School contribution of up to 9.95 per cent upon successful completion of six months’ service.
Fee remission
In accordance with the School’s policy, which may be subject to change, up to 50 per cent fee remission for girls attending Headington Rye Oxford and up to 20 per cent fee remission for boys attending Magdalen College School (under a reciprocal agreement) and subject to the terms of their policy. Fee remission is calculated on the number of weeks and hours worked and is pro rata for part-time staff.
Salary
£28k per annum
