COMMUNICATION
How we stay in touch
At Headington, we value the partnership between home and school and we believe that excellence in communication makes for a happy and productive learning environment.
Please let us know if you think something is concerning your daughter, however trivial it may seem. We will then be able to work with you to give her the right kind of support and encouragement.
Parents of younger children often meet briefly with the class teacher when bringing their child to school. Parents of older children may also speak with the class teacher at this time if they have any immediate concern.
The School encourages dialogue between home and school and meetings with the class teacher or other staff may be arranged by emailing the teacher or through the Head’s PA, Mrs Clare Litten. Meetings with the Head can also be arranged through Mrs Litten.
There are a number of ways in which you can communicate with the School. The main number for the School is 01865 759400, email on reception@headington.org, and our reception staff will be happy to help with any enquiry.
Emergency contacts
It is vital that the School is able to contact parents, guardians or a nominated emergency contact in case of illness or injury. Parents are, therefore, asked to provide emergency contact numbers and to inform school immediately if there are any changes during the course of the school year.
Emergency arrangements
There may be occasions, for example due to heavy traffic or adverse weather conditions, when parents are unable to collect their daughters as arranged. If this happens, please contact Reception so that children can be booked into After School Care until parents arrive. There is always a member of staff on duty in After School Care until 6.00 pm.
In the extraordinary event of school closure, parents can call Reception for information. Announcements are also made on the website and on social media
ClassList
Classlist enables you to contact other parents safely and securely and to keep up to date with events organised by the Parent Reps. It is a UK site that has been set up by parents, for parents and is completly free to use. As a school we have checked where and how the data will be stored and are happy with the levels of security in place. The online system allows you to enter, manage and update the personal information that you wish to share with your daughter’s year group. So that our site remains just for parents of the school, all requests to join Classlist are checked by the School with our database before they are validated.
You can join now by visiting https://www.classlist.com and searching for Headington School. After your request has been validated, you can log in and use the site, either through a web-browser or using an app (for iOS or Android). We believe that Classlist will help to create a welcoming and engaging community and would encourage parents to be a part of it. If you have any questions about the system, please contact rbowen@headington.org.
Day to day communication
EYFS - Link books and Tapestry
All girls will receive a home-school link book which goes home each day in the book bag. This is to enable both teachers and parents to communicate any late changes to arrangements and it is checked every morning. The specialist program Tapestry keeps track of how your daughter is progressing through the EYFS years.
KS1 - Seesaw
All communication with parents will be via email correspondence and the use of the educational app Seesaw. Seesaw will be used to communicate weekly spellings and other homework and will be used as a Reading record
KS2 - Pupil planners
From Year 3, girls are provided with a Headington Prep School pupil planner. Pupils are always very excited to receive their copy at the start of the year and it is important to ensure they have it with them for all lessons.
The planners include the following information for the girls:
- Calendar dates
- Checklists for school uniform, PE kit and lesson equipment
- E-safety advice
- Homework advice and the e-hub address
- Their personal targets
- Charts for their house point stickers
- A diary to record notes, reminders and information on homework
- Space to reflect on their learning
- Areas for parents to write notes to class teachers
