Charities
Headington Rye Oxford has a strong history of fundraising which dates back to the School’s foundation.
The girls are taught to think about those less fortunate than themselves and the Charities Committee, led by Sixth Formers, is one of the most active in school. All girls take a role in choosing which causes to support. Each form has a charities form representative and the committee is made of a selection of these representatives. The committee decides on the main charities the School will support for that academic year.
Form groups can propose fundraising events to the Charities Committee, while each Competitive House selects a charity and girls compete to raise money for their chosen causes. Each House holds a charitable event every year – cake sales are always popular but activities range widely and include raffles, Christmas Jumper Day and 'Sponge the Teacher' events. Including international trip fundraising, the girls raise an average of £20,000 each year for good causes.
As well as small events in school, Headington Rye Oxford also supports national charity days such as Children in Need and Comic Relief and girls are quick to respond to international disasters. We are very proud of all that they achieve and appreciate the support and encouragement from parents and wider family that enable them to do so.
Headington Rye Oxford girls are also active in the local community, with younger girls singing carols at local care homes, musicians entertaining patients at the Churchill Hospital and a large harvest collection for local charities, to name but a few of the activities they get involved in. Every year, U4 (Year 9) girls take part in OxClean, a community initiative to help keep the streets of Oxford free from litter and our sixth formers volunteer to help with reading and Maths in local primary schools.
Participation in most events is entirely voluntary but the girls are all encouraged to think of innovative ways to help others both in the local community and beyond.
Parent Forum
Parents are invited to take part in Parent Forum meetings and discussions to share their views. We encourage all parents to sign up for Classlist, which is an excellent way to keep in touch with other parents in the year group. Parents can choose exactly which contact details they wish to share. More information about Classlist can be found here.
Foundation Day
The Summer Term ends with Foundation Day, which takes place on a Saturday. There is a combined service in school for the Prep and Senior Schools in the morning and activities on the field in the afternoon.
Foundation Day is considered to be officially the last day of the term and all girls, both boarders and day, are expected to be present on this key day of the school year.
