SIXTH FORM EXPECTATIONS
Dress code
There is no formal uniform for sixth formers. However, as role models for our younger pupils, sixth formers are expected to dress appropriately for the environment.
Appearance and presentation should be conducive to a purposeful working atmosphere and broadly similar to what you would expect to wear in the workplace.
Here’s a simple crib sheet for our smart casual code.
Everyday wear
- Skirts and dresses (knee-length or longer)
- Trousers and jeans (no rips or frays please)
- Cardigans and jumpers
- Tops, shirts and blouses (covering midriff and nothing backless)
- Natural hair colour
- Lanyard (for identification and security, it's important that you wear your issued Sixth Form lanyard)
School events
(Whole School Prayers, Open Days, Meet the Head, Prize Giving, Carol Service etc - this list is not exclusive)
- Smart black, navy or grey suit (jacket and trousers/ jacket and knee-length skirt or dress)
- Smart footwear
Prohibited items
- Flip flops
- Neon colours
- Offensive logos
- Crop tops or bustiers
- Sports wear / leisure wear (except Wednesdays for Games)
- No visible tattoos or excessive piercings
Remember, it's smart casual, not casual! If you are wearing something on this list, you can expect to be asked by a member of staff to change.

Lanyards
All sixth formers will be issued with a lanyard. You will be expected to wear your lanyards at all times and can use them to access the main school, Sixth Form Centre and other areas of site. You can also use them to access the photocopiers and printers.
Games
You will have Games lessons one afternoon each week. You will be able to opt for an activity of your choice and will need to wear appropriate training kit fit for your chosen sport. Please note this is compulsory. If you are representing Headington Rye Oxford competitively in sports fixtures, you will require the school match kit for Hockey, Football and Netball.
Attendance and punctuality
Registration is by 10.15 am at the latest every morning with Mrs Palin or in your first lesson of the day if earlier. We need to see you in person.
- Year 13 students can leave campus after registration — please sign out of the Sixth Form Centre first with Mrs Palin.
- Year 12 students can leave campus from 12.00 pm but are expected to be in school until then and must remember to sign out if they do leave.
- Any Year 12 student who is not reaching our academic expectations will be asked to attend school from 8.25 am and go to supervised study. This will be regularly reviewed.
Part-time employment
If you choose to undertake any part-time employment, you must be very careful that it does not conflict with, or undermine, your commitment to school life and study. While such employment can provide financial and personal benefits, your school commitments will require much of your time and energy and it is vital that you find time to relax and rest too.
