Welcome!
Welcome to this year’s Headingtonian, the magazine for our alumnae community.
It has been another busy and successful year in School and we have been able to enjoy many of our annual events as well as some new ones, which you can read about here. I continue to be immensely proud of how our school community pulls together through testing times, not only Covid, but also during the current international tensions. Our students have shown enormous support and compassion for the people in Ukraine by donating supplies and raising money.
The theme of this year’s Headingtonian is sustainability. The impact of climate change continues to be one of the major challenges of our time and as a school, it is critical to do all we can to educate Headington girls about the importance of sustainability in all aspects of their education as well as the world around them. This edition features a number of our alumnae who are making a real difference in their work surrounding sustainability and climate change, including Juliet Shepherd who started her own sustainable swimwear company and Alicia Green who works in offshore wind power. We hope that their work will be an inspiration to our students as well as to fellow Headingtonians.
As always, we are very grateful to those in our community who contribute to our students’ learning and in March, we were delighted to welcome so many Headingtonians and parents to our Careers Fair, to share their professional expertise with students eager to explore the world of work. Headington Connect allows our Headington community to engage with one another to offer career advice, mentoring, work experience and business networking opportunities and we encourage all Headingtonians to join to reap the benefits of our fantastic professional community. If you have not already done so, please join today!
We hope that you will enjoy reading the articles and updates in this year’s Headingtonian. We look forward to welcoming you back to School for Headingtonians’ Day or when you are next in Oxford.
CAROLINE JORDAN Headmistress
Gosh, what a(nother) strange year! With the world continuing to adapt to a multitude of changes, Headington too, has had to adjust alongside it. While Covid has impacted many social activities over the past two years, Headington has embraced the virtual world of events and we were delighted to welcome so many Headingtonians to our first ever Virtual Headingtonians’ Day in June 2021. Whilst we were saddened not to see you all in person, it was a fantastic opportunity for our overseas Headingtonians to reconnect with the school as well as each other. This year, we are very excited to be able to welcome all Headingtonians back to Headingtonians’ Day 2022 here at school on Saturday 11th June. If you have not already done so, please sign up here.
Since the start of the academic year, we have been able to invite more members of our Headington community back on site, starting with our evening to celebrate the opening of The Hive in September 2021 which was a great opportunity to showcase our amazing new facilities.
You can find out more about The Hive and our Campaign for a Creative Thinking Future here. And although we had a smaller congregation this year, we were delighted that the Carol Service took place at Christ Church Cathedral and we were able to record the service, which is available for you to watch here.
We hope to see more of you in person soon and look forward to events such as the Oxford 10K Town & Gown on Sunday 8th May and of course, Headingtonians’ Day.
Please continue to share your news and I hope to meet you at one of our events over the next year!
