I was at Headington School from 1939 to 1945 and am still in touch with some of my close friends from that time. I’d like to say hello to people who remember me! My husband and I will both be 90 this year (him in May, me in September) and we will have been married for 64 years this year. We have two middle-aged children, Philip and Catherine and three tall grandsons just finishing university. My husband Brian is an Emeritus Professor of Classical Archaeology; we met on our first day at university when we were both reading Classics at King’s College London. We have lived in Southampton for all of our married life and it’s lovely to be near the sea and the New Forest. Our children went to school locally and our daughter was at St Swithun’s in Winchester. I have spent most of my life teaching Latin in the Comprehensive system. I’ve had a very happy life and would love to hear from anyone who remembers me (Diana Foss, Napier). Miss Ellis was our Housemistress in Napier and her sister, Miss Edna was the Matron. Through teaching Classics, I knew Elizabeth Tucker before she went on to become Headmistress at Headington and we are still in touch.

Liz Traill (1957) writes: "I am living quietly in North Berwick and value this caring community. I have many friends locally and a niece and a nephew with their families not too far away in Scotland. Another niece is in Calgary, Canada and we have a family Skype session every Sunday to keep in touch. I belong to St Baldred's Church, Scottish Episcopal, and am currently on the Vestry. It is a warm and friendly church and like a family. My thoughts and prayers often go out to Uganda and especially to Bishop Kivengere Girls' School, Muyebe, which was founded by the Bishop in 1974 and is therefore approaching its 50th Anniversary. It was a privilege to be the first Headmistress and to help in setting it up with some features of Headington incorporated. We have a house system and an annual Foundation Day. To my joy, it is now among the 200 best performing schools in the country and it is faithful to its Christian foundation."

Greetings from the African Bushveld! Nothing major has happened on the personal side although my daughter will shortly turn 50....where have the years gone? Politically - there is the usual blame and shame on all sides which will ramp up considerably in the days to come as there is a General Election due next year. I will be heading to the Kruger Park end April and will be there until mid June - unless there is TV reception somewhere, I will miss the Coronation. It was interesting to see how many people here were glued to their sets during the funeral of Her Majesty - from retired Afrikaans farmers whose parents/grandparents had fought against the British at the end of the 19th century to young township children who had no idea where England was in the world. One old farmer was heard to mutter "Only the British can put on a show like that" (rough translation)

By posting here, I hope to connect with old friends. I thoroughly enjoyed a career working on population and public health issues in developing countries. I retired from the World Bank in Washington DC, where I live with my husband Peter. My two children are grown, one has a child of his own.

Still dancing after all these years.
I am teaching movement work again after a break from running groups. I began teaching and working as a movement facilitator and movement therapist in 1979. It’s been an honour to witness people find their joy and creativity through self-expressive movement. It’s good to find my 68 year old body is still strong and flexible from over 40 years of physical work! I’m inspired by my teacher Anna Halprin of the Tamalpa Institute who was still teaching and performing at 97. I'm now working on my second book that deals with the mind/body connection with the focus on a creative response to a symptom. My first book about my journey on the hippie trail in 1973 continues to sell, albeit slowly. But I’m glad I decided to self-publish and not sell on Amazon for ethical reasons. My local bookshops all sell my book.

My husband, Ronald and I both retired in early 2020 and moved from North Oxfordshire to Beverley in East Yorkshire, just before the first lockdown. We were both C of E priests but are both enjoying proper retirement and the opportunity to sing in Beverley Minster choir and occasionally to play the wonderful Minster organ. We have a two-year-old granddaughter and a 20-month-old grandson. Two dogs keep us well exercised in this beautiful part of England. I hope to make it to Headingtonians' Day in 2024, and to see some of my contemporaries!

We are enjoying our relatively new life in mid-Wales and are gradually establishing our contribution in this friendly and refreshing area. I am Treasurer of the Mid-Wales Model Engineering Society (runs a park railway giving rides to visitors on summer weekends; Phil is Chairman), Membership Secretary of the Friends of the Montgomery Canal Society, and am still Treasurer of the Rollright Trust (owns and manages the Rollright Stones near Chipping Norton). Amongst committee and board development work with these groups, and a crazy busy 2022 organising events for the 25th Anniversary of the Rollright Trust, I am pursuing my artistic interests and making space for writing down all those memories swirling round in my head. Just back from a very long-overdue visit to the family house I lived in for a while when a child in Pakistan, my head is also now swirling with renewed images of my cousins and their families and many new social media contacts! I never thought I would be sharing with my daughter the experience of looking at the Himalayas - I think that visit will have added a lot to both of our mental stores of images and stories.

Calling all 1978 leavers . . . can you spot yourself in our U6 photograph?! More than 10 of us have already signed up for Headingtonians’ Day on 10th June, so do come back to celebrate our 45 years of leaving school!
After a varied career working in London and internationally, things have come full circle and for the last five years I’ve been working at Headington in the capacity of External Relations Trustee. After university, I enjoyed a varied career working in London and internationally in Market Research, Public Relations and Management Consultancy, before working at Rothschild for 15 years as Head of Leadership & Organisation Development. Now as part of the Development team at Headington, our role is to build a strong sense of community amongst parents and Headingtonians and raise money to enhance the school's facilities and enable us to offer more Bursaries.
On a personal note, Steve and I celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary last summer and we have two children, Edward (29) and Olivia (26). Do get in touch via Headington Connect and it would be great to see as many 1978 leavers as possible at Headingtonians’ Day to reminisce about our time at school and catch up with what’s happened over the last 45 years.

It was so lovely to see so many of our year, at the last HSO reunion, 40 years on. Twenty years ago, my husband and I started our own business, Pioneros.co.uk with my cousin in Argentina. We make leather Polo Belts, dog collars and handbags in our own workshop in Buenos Aires. We were the first to bring Polo Belts to the UK, and little did we know that they would become such a fashion statement! It was a great change for me, after a career in teaching, and a real challenge running our own business! If you ever see us at a show or fair, please come and say hello!

It has been a tough few years for many of us and being in travel it was certainly testing, to say the least! Being stubborn, I didn’t want to let go of my business, so I decided to expand instead. This was a bonkers thing to do during Covid but it I think it might have been worth it. I have requests coming in for all sorts of holidays. Sense Africa has expanded and rebranded to Sense Earth, and I am now operating in India as well as Africa; also looking to other continents too. Watch this space.
In 2021 I got stuck in Namibia during Omicron as we were plunged into red list madness. To get home in time for Christmas I went via Uganda and saw chimpanzees and gorillas in the wild. It was a memorable and exhilarating experience! Now Uganda is on my list of countries I operate in, so there is always an upside to everything!
I still live in Clevedon and love it here. Do get in touch if you want to catch up. We had a great Zoom group over Covid, and it was lovely to see school friends from all over the world. jenny@senseearth.co.uk.

In December 2022, a few of us ex-Napier (Evelyn Cham ('90), Janet Kweh (nee Tam, '91) and me) got together with our families to visit the Royal Navy Submarine Museum in Gosport, Hampshire, UK. It's a rare occasion to have Janet visiting us from Australia and Evelyn had recently returned to the UK from Hong Kong. We had so much fun catching up on each others' news.

After 28 years in London, we have moved back nearer to Oxford and now live in Moulsford. It has been lovely to reconnect with several Old Headingtonians again who live nearby. Two of our children are at university (St Andrew's and Durham) and two still at school, so we spend a lot of our time on the road! The past year has been busy with settling in and plenty of Livery Company events and I am hoping to get back into teaching in the near future.

I never thought I would be writing this. Since leaving Headington, I have gone from Olympic athlete to doctor to someone who now teaches medicine and is an educator. It is interesting how your life can be shaped into something totally different to what you imagined but for anyone who remembers me or knows my history, I would totally encourage you never to give up and to always believe in yourself. My Olympic career was cut short by a major Achilles’ tendon injury that prevents me from walking properly, BUT I had my medical studies to fall back on. Towards the end of my GP training, I was diagnosed with a brain tumour. After three lots of brain surgery and other surgeries, as well as radiotherapy, I was informed I could no longer be near sick people or work clinically because I am very immunocompromised. Another blow BUT I moved to working for the Department of Health. I currently have at least 42 letters after my name from various academic achievements and degrees. I re-packaged myself gathering a lot of knowledge which has led me to become an academic teaching running a medical programme. I am a national examiner and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I have published a couple of books and will shortly embark on my doctorate in Public Health. Right now I can hardly walk up the stairs without huffing and puffing because of my health! BUT PLEASE, PLEASE be encouraged and NEVER GIVE UP!

I am working in Oxford as a counsellor for both young people and adults. It is a very rewarding career and I love the depth of work that is achieved. I am delighted to still be involved with Headington as a governor - and having been both a pupil and a parent it is a wonderful way to give back to the school that was such a launch pad for many of my family. My sisters (both alumnae) are living and working in Oxfordshire and my daughters are split between London, Durham and home in Oxford.

I am now more limited than I was a year ago as I have given up driving! However I have close friends with whom I spend the weekend over the Headingtonians day and I shall very much look forward to coming as usual!
My life is very restricted now, but I do still get to church and to the orchestra in which I enjoy playing the cello. I am very much looking forward to the Headingtonians!

I was very fortunate to spend 20 years working for the Duke of Edinburgh in his private office at Buckingham Palace after leaving university. Following his death in 2021 and the subsequent closure of our office at the palace, I was honoured in the demise honours list with an LVO (Lieutenant of the Victorian Order). In early 2022 I was received by Her Majesty The Queen at Windsor Castle where she presented me with my medal in a private audience. I take away many special memories from this time, including travelling overseas with the Queen and Prince Philip on several occasions. It was without doubt a continuation of my education and I shall forever be grateful for everything that I was taught and the treasured friends I made along the way. His life was a life well lived, to think he was 80 when I started working for him in 2001, but he had the vitality, intelligence and enthusiasm of someone far younger.

After seven wonderful years as Director of the Household Cavalry Museum I knew it would take a lot to tempt me away from Horse Guards. So I am thrilled that in May this year I will be taking up the post of 38th Clerk, since the Reformation, of the Worshipful Company of Painter-Stainers, the fifth oldest Guild in the City of London. With the earliest reference to the Guild being in 1283, I am hugely excited about learning from and bringing new ideas to such a historic institution.

Hello Headington, I am now in my first year of A Levels at JMF studying Graphics, Fine Art and Media Studies. I also went to the Manchester Animation Festival and got my portfolio reviewed.
In February this year I got a place for the BFI academy stop motion animation camp (after submitting my portfolio) in Bristol for a week. We met industry professionals who gave us tips and had a tour of Aardman animation studios. On top of that we also spent two days working on a one-minute long animation in groups, mine was about a ladybird going to a party.
Additionally I am working on my own music (on the bass and garage band), making independent films and now have my first job at an indoor kids play centre.
I have shared my video 'Poppy's Adventure' and I hope this will help inspire the younger generations of animators and artists at Headington.
Thank you and wishing you all the best - Polina
